Batting
After a catch, the new batter faces
When a batter is caught, the incoming batter takes strike, even if the two batters crossed while the ball was in the air.
Updated 29 Sept 2026
It used to matter whether the batters had crossed while a catch was being taken. If they had, the not-out batter ended up on strike.
The current Law
Since 2022, when a batter is caught, the new batter always comes in at the striker's end and faces the next ball. It doesn't matter whether the batters crossed.
The exception
If the catch was the last ball of the over, the ends change as normal for the next over. The not-out batter will then usually face.
